Art, Tea, Music, and More: Hands-On Learning about East Asia

Three women in traditional Japanese clothing engage in a hands-on learning experience at a tea ceremony, seated on tatami mats with tea utensils and a decorative screen reflecting the art of East Asia.

Looking to teach about Asia beyond the common texts and bullet points? This highly interactive, full-day workshop brings together expert scholars and practitioners of Chinese calligraphy, Japanese tea ceremony, taiko drumming, and woodblock printing to explore the origins and impacts of these rich cultural traditions in an exciting, hands-on format.

Through interactive demonstrations and concrete lesson plans, this workshop will provide teachers with deep contextual knowledge and practical strategies for engaging East Asian culture through high-impact, experiential learning activities.
