Classes are back in session and the Arkansas National Consortium for Teaching about Asia is pleased to offer teachers support to bring Asia into the classroom. This fall, we will be offering all Arkansas K-12 teachers up to $400 in competitive mini-grants toward the purchase of curriculum materials, field-trip support, conference travel and registration, or other professional development need.
Our previous grant receiver, Janetta Freeman, took the Dardanelle High School History Club to attend a lecture by Dr. Reed covering several historical and cultural topics. Including a discussion of religion and philosophy in New Year Traditions, a mochi-making demonstration, and a discussion of samurai culture with a sword demonstration.

My students received valuable and engaging content that extended their knowledge of Japanese history and culture. They are still talking about Dr. Reed and Samurai Sword Soul’s presentations a week later!
Teachers who receive a mini-grant will engage in a 1-on-1 consultation with a relevant Asia expert to develop a specific lesson plan, and will be invited to publish their lesson plans or professional development experience on ARNCTA.com in Spring 2027.
